So you messed up…
And your first thoughts:
“I don’t want Him to see me like this”
So 💡
Fig leaves:
(Hiding, lying, delaying)
They seem like adequate covers in the moment
A quick fix
But take a second to think…
Fig leaves:
All leaves are fragile
They wilt sooner than later
Then they’ll just be garbage for clean up.
Fig leaves:
Easily torn
So too are the excuses we conjure
Deceptive propensities
That are easily ruptured
Soon we must find additional leaves to cover these ruptures
Now layers of deception.
Like Adam, Eve and Habakkuk
Falsely we think He cannot look at us in our sin
So we hide, looking ridiculous in patched fig leaves
As our lives exponentially approach entropy
Until we acknowledge the account of the gospels
- Ripped veils of the Temple as He gave His life for us: Mt 27:51…
- The ultimate sin sacrifice
- Opening the Holy of Holies with His death: Lev:16:2
- That we may barge in boldly to find grace when we need it: John 5:14
It is beyond our mere finite beings to comprehend the ways of an infinitely AWEsome God!
That a holy God can harbour us in His presence
Compassionately removing our frail wilted fig leaves and clothing us with His grace.
Grace
From a Just and Merciful God!
No need to ever be ashamed.

How you relate deception, fragility and shame in this poem giving the Biblical reference is so wonderful. 🙂 🙂 This is such a beautiful poem. 🙂 I’m glad I just read it. 🙂

I think we all have at some point…but we must remind ourselves of what God has said to us…and recognize shame as not being from God to counteract it with His gifts and promises. Thanks for reading.

Aren’t we ridiculous to think we can cover our own sins in the presence of an Omniscient God? Praise God for Grace! Thanks for sharing!

What JOY we have, in the knowledge that we have a God who loves us so much, that even in our sin and shame, He is so completely enamoured with us! And rather than leaving us hiding under our shame, He exposes it, and cleanses us from it, so that we can live guilt free, basking in His rich, unconditional love! Your thoughts are written beautifully and tell a wonderful love story! Thank you!

Love the explanation that leaves are fragile, and eventually we will need more, leading to layers of deception! Nice work!
